What to check before ordering Sensitivity: 30 mA protects people; 300 mA protects against fire and is normally used upstream. Type AC detects sinusoidal leakage only; type A also detects pulsating DC and is required where drives and electronics are fed. SI versions resist nuisance tripping from transient leakage and high-frequency noise — worth it on drive-heavy boards. An RCCB provides no overload protection: it must be backed by MCBs. Frequently asked questions What does the SI in iID SI mean? Super-immunised. These devices are hardened against nuisance tripping from transients, surge and high-frequency leakage, which makes them the practical choice on boards feeding VFDs, switch-mode supplies or long cable runs.
Do I need an RCCB if I already have RCBOs? Not usually on the same circuits — an RCBO already combines earth-leakage and overcurrent protection per circuit. An upstream 300 mA RCCB is still often specified for fire protection on the incomer.
Why is my RCCB tripping intermittently? Most often accumulated standing leakage across many circuits rather than one fault, especially with drives and electronics. Splitting the board across more RCDs or moving to type A / SI devices usually resolves it.
