Siemens SENTRON RCBO & RCCB

Residual current devices protect people against earth leakage, and they are increasingly specified on new installations as standard. We supply the SENTRON 5SU RCBO range, which combines overcurrent and residual current protection in one module, and the 5SV and 5SM RCCB ranges for whole-circuit earth-leakage protection, in 30 mA personal-protection and 300 mA fire-protection sensitivities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an RCBO and an RCCB?

An RCCB detects earth leakage only and must be backed by a separate MCB for overload and short-circuit protection. An RCBO combines both functions in one device, so a fault on one circuit does not trip the whole group.

Should I specify type A or type AC?

Type A wherever the circuit feeds variable frequency drives, switch-mode supplies, EV charging or modern electronics — these can produce pulsating DC leakage that a type AC device may not detect. Type AC is only appropriate for purely sinusoidal loads.

Why does my RCD keep tripping?

Usually accumulated standing leakage across several circuits rather than a single fault.
