ABB RCD, RCCB & RCBO

ABB's residual current range covers both device types: F200 RCCBs for whole-group earth-leakage protection, and DS201 / DS203 RCBOs that combine earth-leakage and overcurrent protection in a single module so one faulty circuit does not trip the whole board. Sensitivities run from 30 mA for personal protection to 300 mA for fire protection.

Frequently asked questions

RCBO or RCCB — which should I fit?

An RCCB protects a group of circuits, so one earth fault takes them all out. An RCBO protects a single circuit and also provides overcurrent protection, so faults stay contained. RCBOs cost more per circuit but are increasingly the default on critical boards.

What does type A mean and do I need it?

Type A detects pulsating DC residual current as well as AC. It is required wherever electronics, variable frequency drives, UPS systems or EV charging are supplied — all of which can produce leakage a type AC device may not see.

Why does my RCD trip with no obvious fault?

Usually cumulative standing leakage from many devices rather than a single fault, especially with drives and IT loads. Splitting circuits across more RCDs or using RCBOs per circuit is the normal remedy.
