Overload relays protect motors from sustained overcurrent while tolerating normal starting inrush. ABB's TF and T ranges are thermal bimetallic relays that mount directly onto matching AF contactors, while the EF range is electronic, offering a much wider setting band per device plus phase-loss detection and selectable trip classes.
Thermal TF relays are cheaper and perfectly adequate for standard direct-on-line starting. Electronic EF relays give a much wider setting range on one part number, phase-loss protection and consistent tripping regardless of panel temperature — worth it in hot panels or where you want to cut spares variety.
TF and T relays are designed to mount directly onto matching AF contactor frames.
Class 10 suits most direct-on-line motors. High-inertia loads — large fans, centrifuges, crushers — take longer to reach speed and need Class 20 or 30 to avoid tripping during a normal start.
