The ACS880 is ABB's flagship industrial drive, built for demanding process duty: direct torque control, high overload capability, integrated safety functions and a common architecture from wall-mounted single drives to cabinet-built and multidrive systems. It is the drive of choice on mills, crushers, extruders, winders and large pumps across heavy industry.

DTC is ABB's motor control method that regulates torque directly rather than through a fixed modulation pattern, giving fast torque response without an encoder. It matters on high-dynamic loads — winders, cranes, extruders — and much less on a simple pump.
The ACS880 is the successor to the ACS800 and keeps the same DTC control philosophy, but the mechanics, control boards and parameter structure differ — it is a replacement, not a drop-in.
