ABB ACS580 General Purpose Drives

The 580 platform is ABB's all-compatible general purpose drive family: ACS580 for standard industrial pumps, fans and conveyors, ACH580 tuned for HVAC with building protocols and fan-specific functions, and ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump-cleaning and level-control features. All three share the same control panel, parameter structure and option modules.

• Pick the right variant — ACS580, ACH580 and ACQ580 differ in built-in application macros, not just naming.
• Confirm IP class and whether the drive is wall-mounted (-01) or cabinet-built (-07).
• Derate for ambient temperature and altitude; hot plant rooms routinely exceed the 40 °C reference.
• Check whether an EMC filter is built in for your supply earthing arrangement (some must be disconnected on IT networks).

ACS580 is a general purpose drive for standard variable-torque and light constant-torque duty — pumps, fans, conveyors. ACS880 is the industrial drive with higher overload, DTC control and heavy-duty options. If the load is simple and steady, the ACS580 is the cost-effective answer.

What is the difference between ACH580 and ACS580?

Same hardware platform, different application software and defaults. ACH580 ships with HVAC macros, BACnet and fan/pump functions ready to use. On an air-handling unit or chilled-water pump, that saves real commissioning time.
